To discover on Sainte Marguerite Island


Discover the famous prison where the Man in the Iron Mask was held captive during the time of Louis XIV. The painter Jean Le Gac suggests a cell by cell route evoking the memory of places and men.

In Roman cisterns, the museum presents archaeological finds from the area. Excavations of the island and the sea in the surrounding areas have bestowed relics of 1st century murals, remains of the contents of a roman shipwreck from 1BC and those of a Saracen wreck from the 10th century to the museum. The Maritime Museum (Musée de la Mer) will be closed on Mondays and on December 24th, 25th, 31st 2013 & January 1st 2014.

The seabed around the Lérins Islands is rich in protected species and in remarkable habitats. In response to the preservation issues of this natural heritage site, the CPIE des Iles de Lérins et Pays d’Azur opened the Méditerranoscope® Point Info Biodiversité®. This space, which holds aquariums with reconstituted seabeds from around the Lérins Islands, is dedicated to awareness and informing the public.

From April to October, the restaurant « La Guérite » welcomes you on Sainte Marguerite Island. You will discover a place of 1000 m2 at the water’s edge in front of the Bay of Cannes. In this little piece of heaven, you will find three distincts spaces for your lunches, dinners, private events or work meetings…
